Professional Bio
Bahareh Sahebi, PsyD, LMFT, is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychology at Northwestern University’s Psychology Department and serves as the Assistant Program Director in the Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy program at Northwestern University. As a Clinical Fellow and an Approved Supervisor of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, Dr. Sahebi has served as an instructor and a clinical supervisor for graduate-level training programs in the disciplines for marriage and family therapy, education and social policy, counseling, and clinical psychology. She was the recipient of the 2022 distinguished Teaching Excellence Award for the Marriage and Family Therapy Program, The Center for Applied Psychological and Family Studies at Northwestern University.
Her integrative, systemic clinical practice addresses a broad range of patient concerns, and she has developed a specialty in the treatment of trauma while working with individuals, couples and families. Her clinical interests include working with underserved populations, she currently has an active private practice where she continues to work as a clinician and a consultant. Dr. Sahebi also volunteers her time to work with survivors of mass trauma as well as the refugee population where she has worked with various organizations including the Humanitarian Assistance Program. Dr. Sahebi is also the co-founder of ParentLENS.com, where she serves as a co-consultant and educator providing culturally sensitive, empirically-supported guidelines, for appropriate parenting practices, to immigrant parents and children, adolescents and youth.
Dr. Sahebi has extensive experience in program development in and mental health agencies and corporate settings. She is the recipient of the 2018 Dr. Christine Bard, Compassion and Skill in Rehabilitation Practice Award, nominated by the Illinois Chapter of the International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals. Her past scholarships have focused on clinical supervision, couples’ health, teletherapy, parenting and childfree decisions, couples and health, multicultural and immigrant parenting practices and the impact COVID-19 on families. Dr. Sahebi has also served as an associate editor of the Encyclopedia of Couple and Family Therapy, works on the editorial review boards of various journals, and continues to present at regional, national and international conferences. She is also the co-author of the book Integrative systemic therapy in practice: A clinician’s handbook published by Routledge. Dr. Sahebi is an elected member of the of the Board of Directors for the Illinois Association of Marriage and Family Therapy.
